eNewsletter

Using an eNewsletter can be a very effective way to communicate your message when done well but done poorly, it can have a negative impact.  The following points highlight some methods that can be used to get results with your eNewsletter.

  • Make sure your email list is accurate, up to date and that the recipients have opted in to receive the eNewsletter.  If anyone opts out then ensure they have been removed from the list.
  • Don’t just send out the eNewsletter for the sake of it.  Make sure there is a clear purpose and reason for the eNewsletter and include content that is relevant and of interest to the recipients
  • Avoid having the focus of the eNewsletter being the request for donations or selling products.  Certainly have these included within the eNewsletter but if the recipients believe they are going to be asked for something in each eNewsletter then they are less likely to open it.
  • Most people delete without reading emails simply based on the content in the “subject” and “from” fields of the email.  Therefore, ensure the “from” field is clearly shows that it is from your organisation and the “subject” field states something of interest or appealing to the recipient such that they are more likely to open the email.
  • Design your eNewsletter in a way that allows the reader to get a quick sense of the content.  This can be done by the use of good headlines or larger fonts to highlight certain points as well as pictures or even diagrams.
  • Provide links that take the reader to your website or Facebook page so they can obtain more information as required as well as contact your organisation.
  • Avoid having links to large files or attachments that need to be downloaded.

These points will help your organisation to get results.  Try to track and keep statistics in relation to the effectiveness of these points and importantly review the methods and make changes as needed.
