The end of June is near and, as always, it brings along the end of the fiscal year. This means that NFPs and charities, and clubs need to prepare the annual financial report, and start planning for the next financial year.
In other words, if you are responsible for your sporting club’s report, you should start choosing the appropriate indicators that will show club performance. However, your club may need to look at more than pure dollars and cents. You may need to point out many other aspects of your club and show how they contribute for its growth and development and ultimate prosperity.
Although every club needs to monitor its own indicators and point them out in the final report according to the needs, activities and goals of the club, there are some points which are universal for everyone.
Promotion
One of them is promotion and advertising. Every club needs promotion and you have probably conducted some events and campaigns to spread the word and get more fans. If that is the case, remember that your performance report needs to mention all the promotion events, as well as relevant media coverage, new contacts and connections made with influential people and organisations and everything else that relates to promotion. You are looking to show the return on investment in your promotional activities.
Participation
Participation is also a measurable item that you can report on. How many games did your club participate in? Divide them in different tournaments and competitions, state which of the matches have been official and which ‘friendly’ and what the results from the season are. Don’t forget to attach any relevant statistic that can give more insight into your club’s games.
Players
In addition, your performance report may contain information about the players in your club – how many there are, how many are registered and who has participated in games during the season. Do you have new members and if so, how many? If some of your players have been selected for participation in training squads that represent the region, the state or the country, that is worth mentioning, too.
Development
Another important part of your report should give information about the education and development carried out for the sake of your players, coaches and officials. This includes workshops, accreditations (during the year), information sessions, education programmes, conducted drug tests, etc. This will give information about the development of the people involved in the club and if the conducted events were successful or not, what should be changed next year and which sections require more effort.
Apart from all that, you will need to include specific points relevant to your club. If there is an official store for club merchandise, you will need to keep a track on its performance. The same goes for the website of the club and its visitors, the games attendance and anything else that may show the progress of your club. The more detailed your report is, the better you will be able to analyse the result of the fiscal year and to prepare for the following one. Good luck!
