Facebook

Facebook has recently released a whitepaper titled “Building Your Presence with Facebook Pages: A Guide for Causes and Nonprofits.”

The intention behind the whitepaper is to educate members of not for profit organisations on how to use Facebook to establish a connection with their supporters.  Business owners understand that people prefer to buy from people they know.  Similarly, people prefer to donate to charities they know and believe to be doing good work.

Facebook is a popular social media platform because it is simple to use and it provides multiple opportunities to build relationships with supporters which, in turn, boosts donations.

The paper presents the best practices:

  • Tell your story in your own unique voice
  • Share rich content including photos and videos
  • Create a dialogue through your posts and the information you share
  • Amplify your impact by encouraging supporters to share your message
  • Measure your results so you understand your followers and then optimise your posts to meet their needs.

The paper shows not for profits how to set up and manage a Facebook page, and how to use the many features for maximum impact.

Facebook is an excellent tool for not for profits to use because it takes them straight into the news feed of their supporters.  As long as the information being shared is engaging, relevant and presented on time, it will build a loyal and highly committed following.
