Fundraising is an important part of any Volunteer Treasurer’s role. For this very reason we have put together a summary of some of our more recent fundraising posts to make it easier to find the information on this very significant topic.
No one said fundraising was easy – and if they did, well – they might have been stretching the truth ever so slightly. Here you will find some of the things you are up against when you set out to do your fundraising. Knowing your impediments in advance can sometimes help make your fundraising efforts more successful particularly when it comes to planning your strategy.
One of the most critical elements of any fundraising activity that often gets overlooked is communication to the staff, volunteers, government agencies, any other organisations and especially the general public who are often the major contributors that have led to the success of the event. So make sure you document a clear communication plan into your fundraising objectives so no issues arise.
The good news is there are many different ways to fundraise including donations, merchandising and sponsorships. And of course don’t forget mobile fundraising – it might be the new kid on the block in terms of methods but the percentage of donations made on mobile web browsers has grown 205% in the last 12 months.
Have you considered targeted fundraising? It can be a very effective method for your organisation to obtain funds and donations for specific purposes or for special projects. Similar to that of general fundraising, it is critical to keep donors informed of the progress and how much has been raised towards the specific project.
Don’t forget to take the necessary time to plan your upcoming fundraising opportunities as they can provide the additional income you need for your organisation to expand operations, for example, through the purchase of new equipment, employ additional staff, renovate facilities or build new premises.
Yes fundraising can be daunting but it can also be rewarding, particularly when you take into account the talents of your team and volunteers and use them to your full advantage.
