Ensuring that your NFP raises enough funds to support all of its activities can be a challenge. In addition to grants and fundraising events, direct donations are a significant source of funding for most NFPs.
While many individuals and groups support the mission of various charities and associations, they often overlook making a direct donation because they simply don’t think of it. Others might consider making a donation when they encounter a fundraising campaign but are reluctant to do so because they worry about keeping up with their receipt and later missing the deduction. Some will then resolve to make a donation at a more convenient time, but then the desire to donate passes.
Anything that you can do to make it easier for others to donate to your cause will improve your fundraising efforts. Even a slight increase in your direct donations can be the difference between having all of the funding that you need to support your operations or having to cut back on the services and activities that you provide to your community.
Increase Fundraising and Make Donations Easy with the ATO App
The Australian Tax Office recognises the challenges that many NFPs face in raising adequate funds, which is one of the reasons why they have made it easier for everyone to keep track of their donations to their favourite causes and associations with the new ATO App.
How the ATO App Works
Users can download the ATO App from the Google, Apple or Windows App Stores. Once installed, just take a snapshot of the receipt for their donation with their phone, and also record the date, description details, and donation amount via the app’s myDeductions tool.
Once the donation is recorded, the information is stored on the user’s smartphone, where it can then be sent to their tax agent or their accountant. It can also be uploaded directly into their myTax so that they can complete and lodge their return while on the go
In addition to making it easy for users to record and track their donations, the ATO App has a host of additional useful tools and features. These include voiceprint for secure identity verification and the Business Performance Check Tool that allows small business owners to compare their company’s performance with others of a similar size in the same industry.
As you design your fundraising campaigns on various social media channels, you should see an increase in donations if you point out to your donors just how easy the ATO App makes it to keep up with their contributions to your NFP.
