In our last posts we looked at fundraising, how important it is and some of the issues most committees face when trying to encourage donors to become involved. One thing we did not discuss was the skill involved in fundraising.
If yours is a small or community not for profit organisation such as a kinder or sports club, you may not need to worry about developing your fundraising skills. Most people are happy to support the organisation because they or their children are members.
When your not for profit is large it is not as easy to engage people with your fundraising events. When there is less personal involvement, there is no real emotional connection. That’s when you need help.
Luckily there is real world training available which will help you and your organisation plan and market your fundraisers.
The Fundraising Institute of Australia conducts a number of education courses which award industry recognised qualifications such as:
It also offers a number of online business skills courses including negotiation skills, leadership skills and making budgeting work in the real world.
The courses are presented by industry professionals and are available around the country.
If your not for profit is not having much success in raising funds, consider taking one of these courses.
