online presence

Most organisations have some form of online presence whether it is via a website or a social media site.  If you don’t have a presence then you should look at developing on as soon as practical.  The value of having an online presence can be enormous yet the time and cost to develop and maintain an online presence is relatively insignificant.

It is also important with you online presence that you actively manage and maintain it as often this can be the main method you will communicate and engage with the general public as well as your members.  Therefore, there are some important elements you should consider with your online presence and social media site.  These include:

  • Ensure you are clear about the value you are offering to your visitors.  In other words, provide a reason for people to visit and engage with your site.
  • Provide information in a social manner that allows visitors to interact and engage with the site.  For example, seek opinions, feedback and comments on the issues you have posted that allow conversations to occur.
  • Your online message should be linked to your strategic objectives or targets.
  • There are many other online platforms that your organisation may or can be using such as blogs on your website, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google +, as such try to refer to each other and provide links to the other sites.
  • Not all of your content has to be “work related”.  It can be fun, too, but it must always be relevant to and suitable for your visitors and followers.
  • Always ensure you provide new information that is current and up to date.  If the information on your site remains unchanged or is out of date then people are simple not going to bother to return to your site.

These are just some simple yet effective ways to use your website and social media pages,  and also to highlight the importance and value of having an active online presence to engage with the general public as well as your members.
