grant application

Today’s post follows on from yesterdays as we look at more tips for writing your first grant application.

Check for specific requirements

Your ideas for writing a grant application may be different from those of the people giving the grant. Find out what they require – specific documentation, evidence, projects, explanations, etc. If you are asked for evidence for the sum you will need, make sure to provide reliable sources and to show exactly how you will use the money. Check the calculations carefully.  You don’t want your application rejected because of a simple mistake.  Or worse – you don’t want it approved if it won’t allow you to complete the job it was intended for.

Ask someone to review your application

Once you have written the application, ask a fellow committee member to read it over.  Have you missed anything?  Does your information make sense?  Have you made a good enough case to be awarded a grant? Is it strong enough to be convincing?

Meet the deadlines

Leave enough time for considering, re-considering and polishing of your application, but make sure you submit it on time.  Sounds logical?  You’d be surprised at how many people either get the date wrong or miss it in frustration!

Keep your eyes open for grants that suit your needs and don’t be afraid to apply for them.  After all, someone has to win them.  It might as well be you.
